Gloria Huertas Sánchez pursued a degree in Physics, specializing in Electronics, at the University of Seville, where she graduated in 1997 with the Prize for the Best Academic Record in her class. Since 2001, she has been affiliated with the Department of Electronics and Electromagnetism at the University of Seville, currently serving as an Associate Professor in the field of Electronics. In 2004, she earned her doctorate from the Institute of Microelectronics of Seville (IMSE-CNM-CSIC).
Dr. Huertas Sánchez has made significant contributions to both fundamental and applied research, focusing on the design and testing of analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits. Her current research emphasizes developing circuits for biomedical applications. Her prolific scientific output includes the publication of one book, multiple book chapters, and over sixty articles in peer-reviewed journals and national/international conferences. She has also been actively involved in numerous Research and Development projects at both the national and European levels, as well as in several industrial collaborations and International Development Cooperation initiatives.
Her expertise has earned her recognition as a scientific reviewer for several high-profile journals and conferences. She has also demonstrated innovation in technology transfer, holding four patents. Notably, in 2021, she and her research group established a Knowledge-Based Enterprise (KBE) named Biotechnology and Healthcare Developments, Sociedad Limitada, which emerged from winning two prestigious awards in the XVI Entrepreneurship Ideas Contest of the University of Seville. The initiative "Volum - Heart Failure" won a €9,000 prize for the best business model in the Teaching and Research Staff category, while the "SYMAS - Smart Lab" initiative received an award for the proposal with the greatest social impact. The company further garnered a €9,000 prize for the "Volum" initiative in the II edition of the "EBCite: Investiga, Transfiere, Emprende" Contest at the University of Seville and a €70,000 grant in the 2022 CaixaResearch Validate Call by the La Caixa Foundation.
In the international arena, Dr. Huertas Sánchez has achieved remarkable recognition, such as the 1st Prize in the 2013 TI European Analog Design Contest, organized by Texas Instruments, which awarded $10,000 to her team under her supervision. She has also contributed extensively to academic management, serving as Vice-Dean of Teaching Innovation at the Faculty of Physics, University of Seville, for eight years.
Beyond her academic and research endeavors, Dr. Huertas Sánchez is passionate about scientific dissemination. She authored the book "Del electrón al chip", published by Catarata-CSIC. Her creative engagement includes directing theatrical and musical performances for scientific outreach during the European Night of Researchers in Seville from 2013 to 2018. Between 2013 and 2021, she spearheaded the project "Contar la Física: Experimentos de Física General Interactivos", a laboratory-exhibition that recreated iconic physics experiments at the Faculty of Physics, University of Seville. Additionally, she has contributed as a collaborator and team member of the university radio program "Ciencia Clandestina" on Radius, among other initiatives.
Dr. Huertas Sánchez's career reflects a rare combination of academic rigor, innovative research, effective teaching, and impactful outreach. Her ability to integrate these areas has not only advanced her field but also inspired future generations of scientists and engineers, leaving a lasting legacy in both academia and society.
